The Substance Misuse Training Programme (SMTP) currently being rolled out by the CEU at UWC consists of 8 short courses specifically designed for community workers from disadvantaged communities who are working in the area of substance misuse. These short courses are packaged in a manner to assist community workers to develop attitudes towards, and gain skills and competences in, the facilitation and implementation of substance misuse programmes at community level. Participants will be able to monitor and evaluate their progress with regard to their substance misuse support and treatment programmes in their communities and organisations after the completion of the training.

The short courses is aimed at everyone working within their communities and organisations in the area of substance misuse. These include amongst other community workers, lay counsellors, teachers, health care workers, community-based organisations, non-profit organisations and faith-based organisations. The duration of each of the Substance Misuse short courses ranges from 2-4 days over a 1 year period
