Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC)

On 22 March, the University of the Western Cape (UWC) hosted a distinguished delegation from Ghent University, Belgium, and the University of Missouri (USA) marking a long-term partnership and a shared dedication to community engagement, student development, and meaningful social impact.

During their visit, Ms. Damaris Kiewiets and Dr. Samantha van Schalkwyk from UWC’s Community Engagement Unit (CEU), facilitated a visit to the Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC), a comprehensive facility offering integrated support to survivors of rape. The services range from medical care and counselling to legal assistance. Here, UWC students gain invaluable hands-on experience while contributing to the support of survivors of gender-based violence. With its foundation in compassion and dignity, the centre restores hope, ensuring that every survivor receives care, respect, and a clear pathway to justice.
