The CEU has managed to grow Mandela day into a Mandela week which consisted of a 3 day community engagement which took place on the 18, 19 & 20th of July 2017.

Prior to this engagement the plan the CEU set out was to create more partnerships within the university community to celebrate Mandela week through each department on board participating in engagements. The beneficiaries of this engagement were identified as the Ikaya Labantu Centre, Langa; Matroosfontein cottages, Matroosfontein and Lily Haven Home for the Aged, Bonteheuwel.

The Rector, Prof. Tyrone Pretorius participated in the packing of the care packs for the beneficiaries of the Mandela day collection drive and Prof. Osman (Dean of Faculty of Dentistry was the key note speaker at the Lily Haven Home in Bonteheuwel, Prof. Priscilla Daniels (Director of Community Engagement) addressed the Ikaya Labantu Centre in Langa and Ms Henriette Weber (Director of Performing Arts) delivered the key note address at Matroosfontein Cottages.
