Colloquium SPEAKERS Speakers >> Panel Chairs Event Programme UWC CEU Colloquium 2021 The 2021 CEU Colloquium theme will require us all to reflect and deliberate on issues such as: Decoloniality in our Scholarship of Engagement (SoE) practice; our SoE Model and Principles of Community Engagement (CE) at UWC; the importance, and different types of Community-University Partnerships required for impactful societal transformation; and the Institutionalization of our SoE to ensure effective measurement and reporting of our Social Impact as a locally impactful and internationally relevant Anchor Institution. Main speakers Prof Rajendra Chetty Faculty of Education (UWC) Prof Rajendra Chetty teaches in the Faculty of Education at UWC. His transdisciplinary research leans on critical pedagogy, cultural studies, postcolonial perspectives and social justice ideas on activism in education. Read more Prof Vivienne Lawack DVC Academic (UWC) Prof Vivienne Lawack is the DVC: Academic at UWC. She is also a Professor of Law in the Department of Mercantile and Labour Law in the Faculty of Law and serves on a number of boards and councils, including being chair of the Moravian Church Trust, a member of the South African Judicial Education Institute Council and a member of the Kepler Institute Board and Kepler College Board (Rwanda). She is an admitted, non-practising advocate of the High Court of South Africa. Professor Lawack joined UWC in 2015. Professor Lawack has published extensively, including numerous articles, reports and contributions to chapters in books. She has also delivered papers at conferences, both locally and internationally and she has supervised a number of masters and doctoral candidates and continues to do so. Professor Lawack is highly engaged in her community, regularly chairing and/or participating in various committees in the legal, financial and education sectors, leveraging her expertise to add value and push her community to greater heights. He previously served as president of the University at Albany and is an experienced and accomplished scientist and research university leader. Read More Dr Jory Weintraub Science Communication Director and a Senior Lecturing Fellow with Duke University’s Initiative for Science & Society Dr Jory Weintraub is the Science Communication Director and a Senior Lecturing Fellow with Duke University’s Initiative for Science & Society, where he teaches science communication courses for undergraduates and graduate students, and conducts science communication training for faculty. Her key responsibilities are facilitating and coordinating community engagement activities at UWC that enhances and promotes the scholarship of engagement through equitable partnership and citizenry to promote sustainable communities. My CEU Details Community Liaison Damaris Kiewiets She facilitate Health and Human Rights training for Community Leaders with the Dullah Omar Institute. She became a Chaplain in 2018 and served on the District Health Council for 2 terms in the Cape Metro. Her role at the university is to assist students and communities to understand the role of the university in the surrounding communities. She facilitates partnerships and networking opportunities. She is an ex-nurse and a strong health activist for Health, Human Rights and Social Development. She graduated as a Meridian in 2013. Damaris served on the Provincial Health Research Council “between” 2009-2014 and she currently serves on the Tygerberg hospital board. She was part of the advisory team of the School of Nursing developing the BA for nursing and very instrumental in the Community Health Component.
